Prep roundup: Clay-Battelle takes third-place game in HIT

Tanner Bragg came off the bench to drop in 21 points Saturday evening and lead Clay-Battelle to a 61-50 victory over Valley in the third-place game of the Hometown Invitational Tournament in Summersville.

Bragg hit 8 of 10 shots for the Cee-Bees, who shot 53 percent for the game (25 of 47). Valley, by comparison, made only 32 percent (22 of 69).

Zach Chisler added 18 points for Clay-Battelle, netting 8 of 13 shots. Logan Opyoke turned in a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds).

For Valley, Zac Warden scored 16 points and Raeshawn Breckenridge 12. Keyshawn Payne grabbed a team-high six rebounds, but the Greyhounds trailed 28-21 off the boards.

It marked the third game in three days for the Greyhounds (11-6), the No. 10 team in Class A, who beat Oak Hill Thursday and lost at Buffalo on Friday.

  • SC 54, NITRO 42: Hunter Moles scored 13 points while Trevond Reese and A.D. Cunningham each finished with 10 to help lead Class AAA No. 1 South Charleston (17-1) to a win at Nitro. Angelo Sirianni tallied a game-high 17 points in the loss for the Wildcats (7-12) and Ethan Clark added 13.
  • CHAPMANVILLE 67, SCOTT 45 The host Tigers raced out to a 31-12 halftime lead and upset the AA No. 9 Skyhawks. Mackenzie Martin poured in 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Chapmanville (9-8) while Trey Dalton added 13 points and Kenny Plumley contributed 12 points and 11 boards. Matt Dolin notched 14 points for Scott (11-7) and Cody Brown had 10.
  • WEBSTER 68, LIBERTY RALEIGH 65: Brett Morris scored seven points in overtime to lead the host Highlanders past the Patriots.
  • Morris, who finished with 36 points, five rebounds and four blocks, was fouled shooting a 3 with about 20 seconds left in regulation, then made all three from the charity stripe to knot the game at 58. Webster jumped out to a 68-60 edge in OT behind Morris and held on for the win.

    Hunter Given added 13 points and nine boards for the Highlanders (12-3), who trailed 32-22 at halftime. Trevor McGee netted 19 points for Liberty (9-7) while Levi Cook chipped in 18 and Matt Klucarich 10.
