Prep roundup: Nitro boys beat Poca on Taylor's buzzer beater

Freshman Trevon Taylor hit a turnaround shot as time expired to lift Nitro to a 45-43 over visiting Class AA No. 2 Poca Tuesday night in boys high school basketball.

With the score tied late in the game, Nitro ran a set play out of a timeout that ended in a missed shot. The ball was fumbled between several players on the rebound attempt before Taylor gained control of the ball and sank the winner.

Angelo Sirianni led the Wildcats (8-12) with 13 points while Taylor and Ethan Clark each finished with 10.

For Poca (15-3), Noah Frampton led all scorers with 18 points.

  • SC 74, CAPITAL 51: Rashaud Kincaid scored a game-high 16 points while A.D. Cunningham chipped in with 15 to help lead Class AAA No. 2 South Charleston to a win at Capital. Hunter Moles and Devyn Harris each scored 11 points for the Black Eagles (17-1), while Carrington Morris and Brad Grose led Capital (7-14) with 12 points each.
  • PRINCETON 63, GREEN. EAST 52: Princeton outscored Class AAA No. 4 Greenbrier East 22-14 in the final period as the Tigers secured a road win. Ryan Meadows tallied 24 points for Princeton (16-4) and Hunter Walters chipped in 17. For Greenbrier East (17-2), Bryce Woodliff netted 17 points and Rondale Watson 16.
  • NICHOLAS 58, HOOVER 55: Herbert Hoover couldn't hold a fourth-quarter lead as visiting Nicholas County (10-9), led by Jared Tharp's 22-point effort, came back late to beat the Huskies. For Hoover (12-7), Cody Morris finished with 14 points and Joey Forbes tallied 13 points.
  • SCOTT 80, WAYNE 36: Brandon Lafauci posted 19 points as Scott won at home. Eric May scored 11 for the Skyhawks, and Matt Dolan and Logan Webb each had 10. Brayden Baker paced Wayne with 12 points.
  • PARKERSBURG 69, LOGAN 66: Parkersburg outscored Logan 29-22 in the final period as the Big Reds secured a home win. Dru Aldridge poured in 21 points for Parkersburg (8-12) and Ben Umpleby had 19. Zak Miller led the Wildcats (6-11) with 14 points followed by Worm Street with 13 and A.J. Reynolds with 12.
  • CLAY 60, BRAXTON 33: Stephen Cole scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Michael Shamblin had 15 points and Chris Cole finished with 10 points to lead Clay County (11-8) to the win against visiting Braxton County. Derek Barnette led the Eagles (5-14) with 10 points.
  • ROANE 58, RAVENSWOOD 50: Jacob Neal scored 12 points as Class AA No. 9 Roane County (14-5) held off visiting Ravenswood. For the Red Devils (4-13), Jake Martin had 25 points.
  • SOUTH 57, INDIAN CREEK 54:  Wes Mitchem led Class AAA No. 5 Parkersburg South (16-3) with 22 points as the Patriots dispatched visiting Indian Creek (Ohio). Cody Monroe added 17 points for South while Alex Young led Indian Creek (14-6) with 22 points.
  • POINT 64, RIPLEY 51: Wade Martin scored 17 points and Alex Somerville 14 as Point Pleasant picked up a road win. Aden Yates also contributed 12 points for the Big Blacks and Dillon McCarty had 10. Ripley was paced by Kade Harrison with 23 points.
  • WAHAMA 93, HANNAN 70: Hunter Bradley exploded for 28 points as Wahama picked up a road win. Hunter Rose also contributed 22 points for the White Falcons (8-11) and Wyatt Zuspan and Trenton Gibbs had 10 points apiece. Paul Holley had a team-high 19 points for Hannan (4-14) and Ty Paige 12.
  • ELK VALLEY 74, NEW LIFE 62: Daniel Beverly scored 25 points and Jordan Elkins 23 for Elk Valley Christian in a road victory. Elk Valley (8-8) also got 18 points from Trey Suttle. Zack Walker paced New Life Christian with a game-high 34.
