Prep roundup: Morris leads Capital past Spring Valley

Carrington Morris had 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals Friday as host Capital defeated Spring Valley 70-55 in the Mountain State Athletic Conference boys basketball fifth-place game.

Brice Goldsmith contributed 13 points for the Cougars (8-14), followed closely by Brad Grose with 12 and Austin Coleman with 11. Austin Keyser led the Timberwolves with 16 points while Jacob Kilgore contributed 14 and Greg Herbert 11.

  • WINFIELD 51, PARKERSBURG 44: Winfield built a 12-point halftime lead and downed Parkersburg in the MSAC fourth-place game on the Big Reds floor.
  • Bear Bellomy led Winfield (13-8) with 20 points, hitting all nine of his free throws, and Chris Turner added 14 points and led the Generals with seven rebounds. Zach Fisher had nine points and six rebounds.

    The Generals hit six free throws in the final 51 seconds to survive a late Parkersburg threat. Trevor Britton scored 16 points to lead Parkersburg (8-13).

  • CATHOLIC 59, ST. ALBANS 36: Nick George scored 16 points in leading host Charleston Catholic to a win in the MSAC eighth-place game. David Godwin tallied 14 points for the Class A No. 2 Irish (17-3) and Zach Casto contributed 12. Nathan McNeil had 15 points to lead the Red Dragons and Kevic Watkins chipped in 11.
  • NITRO 60, RIVERSIDE 59: Riverside turned the ball over in the game's final seconds, allowing Nitro to escape with the victory in the MSAC sixth-place game at Riverside. Angelo Sirianni and Trevon Taylor led the Wildcats (9-12) with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Ethan Clark added 13. For Riverside (8-13), Marcus Reed had 20 points, Tyus Wood 14 and Nick Light 11.
  • HUNTINGTON 84, PRINCETON 55: Huntington hit 30 of its 46 shots from the floor and rolled to a win in the MSAC third-place game at Princeton. Tavian Dunn-Martin had a game-best 26 points for the Highlanders (14-5) and Shaquan Miller (17), Arick Tubbs (15) and Chancelor Wooding (13) were also in double figures. Ryan Meadows' 14 points led the way for Princeton (16-5) and Hunter Walters tossed in 11.
  • MIDLAND 74, RIPLEY 57: Cabell Midland erupted for 32 points in the final quarter in the MSAC seventh-place game at Ripley. Sawyer Beckett paced all scorers with 19 points for the Knights. Keegan Adkins tossed in 17 points for Midland and Niles Dailey added 12. Kade Harrison's 17 points led the way for the Vikings and Casey Smith had 10.
  • BUFFALO 100, WAHAMA 67: Buffalo erupted for 63 first-half points and steamrolled to a road win. Laythen Good led the charge with 33 points for the Class A No. 8 Bison (16-3). Levi Jordan posted 15 and Isaiah Robinson 12. Austin Jordan had 15 to lead the White Falcons (8-11), Hunter Rose added 12 and Hunter Bradley 11.
