East, Westside, St. Joe girls No. 1 in final poll

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Greenbrier East, Westside and St. Joseph each remained at No. 1 in Class AAA, Class AA, and Class A, respectively, as the final Associated Press girls high school basketball rankings were released Monday.

The top five in each class remained intact with No. 2 Spring Valley and No. 3 Huntington (Class AAA), No. 2 Bridgeport and No. 3 Nicholas County (Class AA), and No 2 St. Marys and No. 3 Wheeling Central rounding out their respective top threes.

George Washington fell from No. 8 to No. 9 after a loss to Huntington in the MSAC finals on Saturday. The Patriots are the lone ranked team from the Kanawha Valley.

Martinsburg, Bluefield, Tug boys remain first

Martinsburg (Class AAA), Bluefield (Class AA) and Tug Valley (Class A) each held on to its No. 1 position in the boys high school basketball rankings released on Monday.

After Woodrow Wilson defeated South Charleston in Saturday's MSAC championship game, the Flying Eagles jumped the Black Eagles for second place in Class AAA. George Washington climbed two spots from No. 10 to No. 8.

A pair of losses last week dropped Poca from No. 2 to No. 4 in Class AA.

Tucker County moved ahead of Charleston Catholic for the No. 2 position in Class A, while Buffalo remained at No. 8.
