Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Hurricane senior forward Felipe Thompson was named the Gatorade West Virginia boys soccer player of the year Tuesday.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound exchange student from Chile had 49 goals and 12 assists in leading the Redskins (23-0-1) to the school's first Class AAA state title. Thompson was tabbed captain of the AAA all-state first team by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association and selected AAA player of the year by the West Virginia Soccer Coaches Association.

Thompson has maintained a B-plus average and has volunteered locally on behalf of a nursing home and youth soccer clinics. He is now a finalist for the Gatorade national honor, which will be announced in May.
