Prep roundup: GW girls crush Riverside in sectional 88-51

Three George Washington players topped 20 points as the Patriots defeated visiting Riverside 88-51 Tuesday in the Class AAA Region 3 Section 1 girls basketball tournament.

Kelly Jo Harrison scored 25 to lead the Patriots (15-8) while Kayla Stewart finished with 22 points and Rachel Ward had 21.

For Riverside (7-18), Brittany Wood was the leading scorer with 21 points. GW will face Capital on Friday for the section championship.

  • CATHOLIC 57, BUFFALO 48: Samantha Fletcher scored 21 points as host Charleston Catholic jumped out to an early lead and held off Buffalo in the Class A Region 4 Section 2 semifinals.
  • Anna Whelan added 19 points for the Irish (9-14), who advance to Friday's championship game at Buffalo.

    Chelsey Parkins led the Bison with 21 points while Tiffani Bailey added 12.

  • WINFIELD 41, POINT PLEASANT 30: Haeley Moore scored 15 points and Haylea Robertson had 10 points as Winfield (12-11) defeated visiting Point Pleasant in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 tournament.
  • For Point (7-15), Allison Smith was the leading scorer with eight points.

  • LOGAN 78, HUNTINGTON 70: Shayna Gore scored 27 points and had 12 assists while Monica Mitchell finished with 21 points and 19 rebounds to lead Logan (14-8) to the upset of No. 2 Huntington in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 2 tournament.
  • For the Highlanders (17-5), Kiana Evans had 21 points and Dazha Congleton added 15 points.

  • NICHOLAS 66, POCA 30: Shealyn Shafer turned in 23 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 3 Grizzlies overwhelmed the Dots in AA Region 4 Section 1.
  • Mykenzie Barton chipped in 14 points and Nicole Hamilton donated 10 for Nicholas (18-3), which will face No. 5 Clay at 7 p.m. Friday in the section title game.

    Harley Hutchins had nine points for Poca (5-19).

  • GREENBRIER EAST 69, SHADY SPRING 60: Bianca Andre had 19 points and Chaunte McDowell scored 17 to help undefeated Greenbrier East (23-0) beat Shady Spring in the Class AAA Region 3 Section 2 tournament at the Fayette County Memorial Building.
  • Kaylee Dickinson scored 23 while Morgan Hylton chipped in 22 in the loss for Shady Spring (8-15).

  • PRINCETON 46, WOODROW 28: Mckenzie Akers led all scorers with 13 points to help lead Princeton (18-4) past Woodrow Wilson in the Class AAA Region 3 Section 2 tournament at the Fayette County Memorial Building. Summer Butler finished with nine points for Woodrow Wilson (10-13).
