CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Capital's Carrington Morris didn't play on Jan. 30 when Ripley outlasted the Cougars 65-62 in Charleston.

Unfortunately for the Vikings, Morris did much more than just suit up in Monday's Class AAA Region 3 Section 1 game.

Morris poured in 27 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out four assists and added four steals and a block as Capital cruised to a 75-50 win and a date with No. 3 South Charleston in the sectional semifinals on Wednesday.

After a 16-16 first quarter, Capital put the clamps down on Ripley, outscoring the Vikings 21-8 in the second quarter and never looking back.

Capital coach Carl Clark declined to comment after the win, but Morris said while a tough season hasn't gone exactly according to plan, he and his teammates are looking forward.

"It's just finding open spots, getting where you're supposed to be and hitting open shots," Morris said of his night. "It's not been an easy season, we've been going through some things and through adversity and it's been a long trip. But now is when it counts and all that doesn't matter now."

Morris' 13 boards were part of a dominant showing by the Cougars on the glass that consistently kept possessions alive and kept Ripley's offense down to one shot and done nearly all night.

"[Rebounding is] just instinctive I guess, it's something I've been doing my whole life," Morris said. "I just want the ball and that's the only way I can go get it."
