Prep roundup: Nitro trips WInfield 63-60 in boys sectional

Nitro sank 10 3-point field goals and senior Angleo Sirianni finished with 21 points in the Wildcats' 63-60 win at Winfield in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 boys basketball semifinals Wednesday night.

Nitro (11-12) led by nine at halftime but allowed Winfield to take the lead by as many as five points in the second half before pulling ahead for good. Tyler Barton had 15 points and Ethan Clark 13 in the win for the Wildcats.

For Winfield (14-9), Chris Turner led all scorers with 24 points while Bear Bellomy scored 12 and Brock Pence 10.

  • HURRICANE 78, POINT PLEASANT 61: Rasaan Harris had 27 points and 11 assists while teammate Henry Sorsaia finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds as Hurricane (18-5) eliminated Point Pleasant in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 1.
  • Aden Yates led the Big Blacks (13-11) with 14 points while Wade Martin added 12. Nitro visits Hurricane for the sectional championship Friday.

  • BUFFALO 69, WAHAMA 58: Levi Jordan scored 30 points and Laythen Good finished with 16 as Class A No. 8 Buffalo (20-3) rolled past visiting Wahama in Class A Region 4 Section 2.
  • Austin Jordan led the White Falcons (9-14) with 21 points and Trenton Gibbs finished with 17. Buffalo meets Charleston Catholic for the section title Friday at Wahama.

  • CATHOLIC 75, ST. JOE 36: Charleston Catholic junior Nick George scored his 1,000th career point and led the Class A No. 2 Irish with 22 points in their Region 4 Section 2 win against St. Joseph. Catholic led 26-0 at the outset.
  • Garret McCarty finished with 13 points for Catholic (20-3). For St. Joe (3-20), Thomas Rabel was the leading scorer with seven points.

  •   VALLEY 66, MEADOW BRIDGE 41: Trailing 34-32 midway through the third period, Valley used a 14-0 run to gain control and cruise to its third victory of the season over the Wildcats in Class A Region 3 Section 2.
  • Raeshawn Breckenridge scored 17 points and Keyshawn Payne 15 to lead the Greyhounds. Logan Pomeroy led Meadow Bridge (12-11) with 14 points, followed by Kaleb Farr with 13. The Greyhounds (16-7) host Greenbrier West at 7 p.m. Friday for the sectional title.

  • LOGAN 76, SPRING VALLEY 71: Zach Minnick poured in a career-best 27 points and A.J. Reynolds added 21 and Zak Miller 19 as the Wildcats (8-15) tallied their season-high in points to win in overtime in AAA Region 4 Section 2. Josh Steele's 20 points headed the Timberwolves (6-17).
  • HUNTINGTON 70, MIDLAND 47: Chancelor Wooding dropped in 17 points and Nick Tubbs 13 to pace the Highlanders (16-6) to victory in AAA Region 4 Section 2. Keegan Adkins led host Cabell Midland (7-17) with 14 points.
