George Washington's Garrett Vogelbach beats the tag by Independence's Drew D'Angelo in GW's 19-9 win at the Ed Carter Memorial.
Tyler Berry's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning pushed across two runs and gave Parkersburg South a 7-6 victory over Hurricane in the championship game of the Ed Carter Memorial prep baseball tournament Saturday in St. Albans.
Berry finished 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while teammates Tyler Braniff went 2 for 2 and Jacob Wilcox doubled.
For the Redskins (13-3), Connor Adams went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run, Alexander Dunham went 3 for 4 and Austin Hensley and Tate Brock each smacked a double.
GW 19, INDEPENDENCE 9: Tanner Sorrells went 3 for 3 with a home run, triple and seven RBIs and Garrett Vogelback slugged two homers and drove in six runs to lead George Washington to a six-inning mercy-rule win over Independence in the third-place game at the Ed Carter Memorial.
The Patriots (11-6) exploded for six runs in the third inning and 10 in the fourth to make a winner of starting pitcher Austin Henrich.
Wyatt Adkins, Bud Huffman and Andrue Hughart each had two hits for Independence.
SA 8, RIVERSIDE 7: Bobby Grishaber's two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth gave host St. Albans the lead for good in the fifth-place game of the Ed Carter Memorial Tournament. Zach Halstead's three-run homer in the top of the fourth gave the Warriors a 7-5 advantage. Clark Bryant went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles for the Red Dragons (11-4).
WAHAMA WINS TWO: The visiting White Falcons swept a doubleheader from Alexander (Ohio), winning 10-6 and 8-7.
In the first game, Austin Cole drove in three runs and Wyant Zuspan smacked a double for Wahama. Masono Chapman went 2 for 3 for Alexander.
Garrett Miller had three hits for the White Falcons (6-4) in the nightcap, with Wesley Harrison, Cole and Kane Roush each collecting two hits. Chapman went 3 for 3 for Alexander (5-5).
LOGAN 10, WINFIELD 1:Zach Minnick surrendered one earned run on three hits and fanned nine for the host Wildcats. Troy Burgess went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Logan (10-3) and Josh Rein laced two hits and drove in two runs. Brandon Wright tripled for the Generals and Derek Whiteside doubled.
SC 7, PARKERSBURG 0: Alli Burdette fired a one-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts to lead host South Charleston past the Big Reds. Burdette yielded only a single by Britany Allison in the top of the fourth. Aayliyah Phillips went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Black Eagles (11-6) and Olivia Orcutt knocked in a pair of runs.
