Trey Dawson smacked a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning as Hurricane scored an 11-1 five-inning victory over visiting Lincoln County in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 3 double-elimination baseball tournament.
The Redskins were leading 6-0 and the five-run fifth allowed them to end the game early via the 10-run mercy rule. J.T. Rogoszewski and Riley Metz doubled for Hurricane while Austin Hensley allowed one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.
Brynnan Fakourey went 2 for 2 and knocked in a run for the Panthers, who committed four errors. Hurricane will host Lincoln County at 6 p.m. today.
Kiefer Hovorka, Drew Cable, Sam McKown and Thad Jameson each drove in runs in the bottom of the fourth for Catholic (22-9). Cable finished 2 or 3 with a double and Hovorka pounded out a pair of hits. Trace Adkins and Paul Dransfeld each doubled for St. Joe (11-11).
Catholic takes on Buffalo at 6:30 p.m. today at Triana Field at the University of Charleston. Neither team has a loss so the two will also play Friday.

Billy Evans blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the second for Spring Valley, which will face Cabell Midland in a best-of-three series for the section title starting at 6 p.m. today at Huntington High. Jordan Turner doubled for the Highlanders and Joey Mundy's single broke up Wellman's perfect game in the fourth. Wellman fanned the last two batters after Turner's leadoff double in the fifth.
