HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Anacia Hines and Jacob Burcham were the big winners Wednesday evening as each took three events during the Class AAA Region 4 track meet held at Hurricane High School.
Hines, a sprinter-hurdler from St. Albans, led the girls 100- and 200-meter dashes (with respective times of 12.53 and 26.22 seconds) and the 100 hurdles (15.21).
Burcham, a seven-time state champion for Cabell Midland and Oklahoma distance running recruit, led the boys 800 (1:54.67), 1,600 (4:35.53) and 3,200 (10:01.79) to pace the Knights to the boys regional title.
Winfield won the girls team championship as athletes qualified for the May 17-18 state meet (see results, Page 2B).
Other double winners in the girls meet were: Emily Schwendiman of Hurricane (1,600, 3,200), Mackenzie Cassidy of Midland (high jump, long jump) and Abby Watson of Hurricane (shot put, discus).
Remaining double winners in the boys meet were: Christian Smith of Winfield (high jump, long jump) and Tannor Hill of Point Pleasant (shot put, discus).
Three boys marks turned in eclipsed the season bests in the state among AAA athletes heading into this weekend - Nate Moore of Midland in the 110 high hurdles (14.60), Point Pleasant in the 4x200 relay (1:31.89) and Midland in the shuttle hurdles (57.91).
