When West Virginia comes to Charleston to play VMI in basketball over the Thanksgiving weekend at the Civic Center, fans will have a couple extra helpings of hoops.
According to West Virginia State basketball coach Bryan Poore, his Yellow Jackets will face Virginia State at 4 p.m. on Nov. 27.
It will be the middle game of a tripleheader at the Civic Center that day. Poore said half of the John Dickensheets Classic, all originally set for Institute, was moved to the Civic Center.
At 2 p.m., the University of Charleston will take on highly regarded Bellarmine. The visiting Knights of Louisville, Ky., enter the season ranked No. 2 in Division II, according to the Sporting News. Bellarmine was 23-9 last season and won the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
At 7 p.m., WVU will take on a VMI team that finished 10-19 last season and eighth in the Big South Conference. The Keydets are coached by Dugger Baucom.
According to West Virginia basketball sports information director Bryan Messerly, tickets for the day are $25 for lower-level seats and $17 for upper-level seats. The ticket will allow those attending to stay for all or leave and re-enter.
Poore said his school was given tickets to sell as part of the setup.
"It's a pretty good deal really," said the coach.
