Still, it appears likely that at least one starter and one backup will be affected. The starter is believed to be center Joe Madsen, while the backup is thought to be defensive lineman Josh Taylor.
The Mountaineers leave today for their appearance against North Carolina State in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando.
In addition to Madsen and Taylor, there could be other casualties because of grades. As it turns out, though, one doesn't matter. Cornerback Brandon Hogan is also believed to be academically ineligible, but he has been ruled out anyway because of his knee injury.
