A collection of quotes from WVU and Clemson coaches and players after workouts Friday in preparation for Wednesday's Orange Bowl:

WVU coach Dana Holgorsen, on West Virginia's starting safety:

"We're not ready to name a starter at this point. We have Ian Smith who's been a starter and doing a good job and we have Darwin Smith who's been a starter and done a good job and we have one spot open for about four players who will practice this week to see who will fill that role."

Holgorsen on four players not making the trip to Miami:

"None of those guys have been a very big contributor the way it is. It is what it is, two guys didn't meet grades and two guys didn't make the trip for a reason so we're going to move on without them."

Brodrick Jenkins, WVU defensive back, on Clemson WR Sammy Watkins, who attended the same high school as Jenkins:

"Growing up, me and Sammy were always nice. I was older so I had the resources, the car and stuff, so I would take him home and bring him around with me. I knew he was going to be special. It was like a big brother thing, I used to try to show him by example. But he's a smart, smart person. I'm happy that he went somewhere that really worked out for him."

Wes Tonkery, WVU defensive back, on his first start:

"I've been trying to stay focused these last couple weeks and practice hard. I'm just trying to learn each and every day. I don't feel any pressure yet, maybe before the game, but not yet. I think my family is just as nervous as I am to be honest."

From Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, on coming to South Florida two days early:

"It was either practicing until Christmas Eve and bring them down here on the 29th, or we broke on the 22nd so we had to get back to work on the 27th. It was either bring everybody back to Clemson which would have been an inconvenience for a lot of our players, or it was come down to the Orange Bowl. I put some thought into it and said, 'Why don't we just have a couple days of minicamp, just nothing but ball, nobody around.' And that's what we did and it worked out great. Players bought into that because we had to get back to work. I think West Virginia went a little longer before they took a break so we probably had the same amount of work."

Clemson defensive back Coty Sensabaugh on his response to the popular mindset that this game will be an offensive showcase and track meet:

"We have a great opportunity to prove a point to everybody in the country. I mean everybody will be watching the big show. Nobody else is playing that night, I don't think, so it's just a great opportunity."

Clemson wide receiver Jaron Brown on whether he likes the matchup with the West Virginia defense:

"I like going against any defense, really. They've got great, athletic guys and they run to the ball pretty good and run around pretty good so it's going to be a great matchup."

Brandon Ford, Clemson wide receiver, on facing West Virginia's unconventional defense:

"It's not exactly like Georgia Tech, but our coaches and [graduate assistants] take their time and get the game plan right for us so we'll be ready. I fell like the coaches have taken time out and they've been game planning since the ACC championship game was over. I feel like we will be ready for whatever [West Virginia] brings."
