CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's exciting 48-45 win at Texas, combined with losses by three teams ranked ahead of the Mountaineers in the AP Top 25, opened the door for WVU to move into fifth place in the latest rankings released Sunday.

No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Oregon held onto their spots atop the poll, while South Carolina, Florida and the Mountaineers entered the Top 5 for the first time this season.

In all, nine teams ranked in the AP Top 25 lost last week, the first time that has happened since the weekend of Oct. 18, 2008.

In the USA Today coaches poll, WVU climbed from No. 7 to No. 4.
