MORGANTOWN - West Virginia will have a bit of Luck on its side for a long time to come.

WVU Athletic Director Oliver Luck has a new contract that keeps him on the job through June 2017 and raises his salary to $550,000 a year. It also sets an annual performance bonus cap of $150,000.

WVU President Jim Clements said the new contract will go into effect Monday.

"Oliver Luck is a true leader," Clements said. "He has brought stability, momentum and energy to his position. He is someone we want on our team for many more years to come."

Luck is in the third year of his original five-year contract, which began in June 2010.

Luck has overseen major capital improvements, hired new coaches and overseen the most successful fund-raising effort in school history, with nearly $23 million raised this past year.

He's also overseen WVU's transition to the Big 12 conference and developed a master plan for facility upgrades.

"He is also one of the key reasons WVU is in a powerhouse academic and athletic conference," Clements added.

Luck was also in good spirits after news of the contract was released.

"I appreciate the confidence that President Clements has placed in me and the entire athletic department team," Luck said. "We will continue to work hard as we transition into the Big 12, and will strive to represent this university and this state with the pride and passion each deserves. This is my alma mater and I am thrilled to serve her."
