BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia's debut football season in the Big 12 Conference has been good for the North Central West Virginia Airport.

Interim director Rick Rock tells The Exponent Telegram that the Mountaineers' Big 12 games were responsible for 30 flight operations involving seven airlines.

WVU used the Bridgeport airport to travel to away games and then return. All the visiting teams departed from the airport.

Rock and Benedum Airport Authority president Ron Watson say the football flights helped the airport surpass the 10,001-passenger mark, making it eligible for $1 million in federal funding.
