The league did not learn from its past.

  • You've read in this space that WVU officials wish to keep the football rivalry alive with Pittsburgh.
  • Apparently, those in the Steel City do as well.

"Hopefully, we'll be able to keep on playing," Pitt AD Steve Pederson told USA Today. "Because everything is still new with all this, we don't know how scheduling will work out. I know fans here would like to keep it going."

  • And finally . . .
  • Alex Hammond, WVU's former recruiting coordinator, has been promoted to director of football operations. Which leaves this question: Who will be the recruiting coordinator?

On Thursday, I reached Hammond and asked.

"I'll still have a hand in recruiting," Hammond said. "Ryan Dorchester, our recruiting [graduate assistant], will continue with it. He's been working closely with me."

Basically, Hammond's new role will be to handle much of the administrative tasks for head football coach Dana Holgorsen.

"I'll be his liaison in the areas of academics, compliance, recruiting, etc.," Hammond said. "I'll work with Oliver Luck, [compliance director] Keli Cunningham, [deputy AD] Mike Parsons and others.

"My job is to allow Dana to coach a championship team."

    So there you have it.
