FRANKFORT Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's closely watched U.S. Senate race is drawing lots of out-of-state financial help, some from people famous outside political circles.
Federal Election Commission reports show Democrat Jack Conway has received contributions from television talk show host Maury Povich, former Walt Disney Co. chief executive Michael Eisner and Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Morgan Trent. Republican Rand Paul's roster, though shy of TV personalities, lists more than 700 pages of donors from across the country.
University of Louisville political scientist Laurie Rhodebeck said out-of-state contributors can be a help and a hindrance to the candidates. While they need the money to pay for expensive television advertising, Rhodebeck some voters don't like the idea of non-Kentuckians influencing the race.
Both Conway and Paul raised more than $1 million between April and June.
