Primary election for new county govt. in Cleveland
CLEVELAND (AP) - Voters are kicking off a new era in county government in Cleveland.
Tuesday's primary election will pick Democratic and Republican candidates for a new form of Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County leadership taking office in January: an executive and council.
The primary winners will advance to the Nov. 2 election.
The current government is run by three commissioners, all Democrats.
Voters approved the change last year amid a continuing FBI investigation of corruption in county government. Dozens of county employees, retirees and contractors have been charged, and most have pleaded guilty.
