CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A new national study calls West Virginia the third-fattest state in the country, dropping one place from last year.

But that decrease isn't because the Mountain State is slimming down so much as it is that Alabama, the nation's second-fattest state, has bulked up quicker.

The Trust for America's Health report says 31.1 percent of adults in West Virginia are obese, and almost 68 percent are either obese or overweight.

For the fifth year in a row, Mississippi is the fattest state. The study found that Colorado is the skinniest, but that about 19 percent of adults there are obese.

Nationwide, adult obesity rates grew in 23 states last year, and did not decline anywhere.

Polls can be made to say anything. What the fattest "percentagewise"? If every citizen in WV were fat, they could not equal to totals of most states.

Since we have a small population it only takes a small number of people to move us up and down in the rankings.

Bottom line no change from last year's fat report.
