CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - An investment firm wants Massey Energy's board to find out why the FBI is investigating the explosion that killed 29 miners at the coal company's Upper Big Branch mine last month.
CtW Investment Group requested the investigation Monday.
Massey says there's already at least three investigations and it's cooperating with all of them.
CtW also is asking shareholders to withhold votes from directors Richard Gabrys, Dan Moore and Massey President Baxter Phillips Jr. The Washington, D.C.-based firm already has urged the ouster of CEO Don Blankenship. CtW doesn't own any Massey stock.
Massey director Bobby Inman says CtW's allegations are unfounded and misinformed. He accused the firm of distorting facts to further a political agenda not in Massey's best interests.
