W.Va. giving funds for tobacco prevention
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia's youth-led tobacco prevention initiative is providing funding to form crews across the state.
Officials say 200 grants for $1,000 will be distributed to qualified individuals and organizations by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and the American Lung Association of West Virginia.
The program called "Raze" wants to form 150 crews throughout West Virginia. Health officials say more high school-aged teens report that they have never used any form of tobacco since the program began in 2000.
Officials are encouraging groups such as boys and girls clubs, youth athletic leagues, faith-based organizations and other community agencies to apply.
