Election gives W.Va. state workers day off
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - State workers in West Virginia are getting a day off next week because of the special gubernatorial election.
Tuesday's election has been declared an official state holiday. Some city and county workers in the state also will get the day off.
Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper tells the Charleston Daily Mail (http://bit.ly/q2FHKIV ) that most county offices will be closed Tuesday. Essential services offices, such as the Metro 911 Center, will be open.
Charleston, South Charleston and other municipalities also plan to close most offices.
Federal employees will still have to go to work. The special election isn't a holiday for them.
