W.Va. Turnpike speeding tickets surge in crackdown
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Speeding tickets issued on the West Virginia Turnpike have surged 70 percent as State Police target lead-footed drivers.
Troopers issued 5,577 speeding tickets from January through August, up from 3,284 speeding tickets during the same period in 2010.
Capt. Randall Hyre tells the Charleston Daily Mail (http://bit.ly/qumQju) that while more tickets are being issued, he doesn't know if drivers are getting the message to slow down.
Hyre increased speed patrols on the 88-mile toll highway when he became the head of the turnpike's State Police troop in September 2010. He says the crackdown won't end anytime son.
