Pet photos/Easter Bunny

Big Dogs Rescue will celebrate its second anniversary with a party from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Greens Feed and Seed, 314 Piedmont Road. The Easter Bunny will be on hand for pet photos. Free hot dog lunches (while they last) and a Chinese auction featuring a Zip Line Canopy tour, Vera Bradley bags, a personalized painting of your pet and much more will highlight the festivities. All proceeds will benefit Big Dogs Rescue, which saves the lives of boxers in danger of being euthanized. The group takes care of their health needs, including spay/neuter and microchipping. Literacy volunteers

The Literacy Volunteers of Kanawha County teaches people ages 6 and older to read and write or improve their skills for free. They also teach English as a Second Language. Volunteer tutors meet with students one-on-one for an hour a week. Tutors will be trained at no cost from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday and April 11 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 5 and 12. The workshops will be at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St. Call 304-343-7323 to register and for more information.

Meditation

Natural Path Meditation Center will present Meditation: The Tool for Self Transformation from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kanawha County Public Library, 123 Capitol St. There is no charge. For more information, contact samadhi49@yahoo.com or call 304-545-8128.

Knitting class

Kanawha County Public Library will offer “Knitting for the Hopelessly Confused” at 4:30 p.m. April 7 in the Main Library, 123 Capitol St. The one-hour class will demystify the language and tools of the knitter, and will teach the basic skills needed to get started as a novice knitter. Needles and yarn will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. The class will be taught by Martha Spalding Mozingo. Registration is required. The class is for adults and teens.
