Roundup: Herd baseball falls to EKU; Tech swept by Shawnee State
TECH SPORTS: The WVU Tech baseball team dropped a pair of games to Shawnee State University, 6-1 and 6-3, Wednesday in East Bank.
In the first game, Shawnee State jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first six innings before the Golden Bears scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Tech recorded a total of fours hits, one each from freshmen Doug Prather, James Utterback, Arik McGinnis and senior Mike Ryan. Utterback knocked in the only RBI for Tech.
In the second game, the scored was tied at three going into the seventh inning before Shawnee State erupted for three runs to earn the victory. Senior Zach Sizemore went a perfect 2 for 2 for Tech, driving in two runs. McGinnis took the loss, giving up three runs and one hit in an inning of relief.
n Baseball player Craig Johnson and softball player Mackenzie Wilson have been named the Golden Bear Star Performers of the Week.
Wilson struck out 11 while giving up three runs on five hits in the Golden Bears’ loss to Rio Grande Tuesday. Johnson pitched a complete game and gave up just one run on six hits while striking out five in Tech’s 4-2 win over Davis & Elkins Tuesday.
