Record Store Day set for Saturday

At Record Store Day on Saturday, vinyl fans can snatch up limited-edition records – but only at their local, independent record store. Locally, that’s Sullivan’s Records on Charleston’s East End and Budget Tapes & Records in Kanawha City. Cheap Thrills in Beckley and Princeton, Now Hear This in Huntington, The Sound Exchange in Parkersburg, Solar Mountain Records in Keyser and Mirage Sound in Grafton are also participating.

The event started in 2007 as a way to build support for independent record stores. Each year, artists from almost every genre release special albums or re-issue classics exclusively on vinyl. Among this year’s artists are Aerosmith, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, Childish Gambino, Eric Church and Dave Matthews Band.

Budget will also have live music from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Keef Mack, Sean Richardson, Andy Park, Travis Vandal, The Information, Rick Styles and Mike Pushkin.

Sullivan’s is located at 1588 Washington St. E.; call 304-344-4355 or visit www.facebook.com/SullivansRecords. Budget is at 3708 MacCorkle Ave. S.E.; call 304-925-8273 or visit www.budgettapeswv.com.
