The beginning of the end: First big batch of shows signs off for season
Even though we’re still in April, a number of shows are already signing off for the season. There were five last week (see the list at the end of the column), and there are 10 more this week (plus the series finale of Lindsay Lohan’s Oprah network show).
First up are a quartet of network shows Thursday night: “Community” and “Parenthood” at 8 and 10 p.m., respectively, on NBC; an hour-long “The Crazy Ones” at 9 p.m. on CBS and “Scandal” at 10 p.m. on ABC. Of those, “Community” and “The Crazy Ones” have yet to be renewed, making these possible series finales (which is looking increasingly likely for “The Crazy Ones,” though less so for “Community.”)
The rest of the week’s finales are on cable. Bravo ends season seven of “The Millionaire Matchmaker” with an episode featuring “Real Housewives” star NeNe Leakes at 10 p.m. Sunday and then wraps up the first season of the Charleston, S.C.-set “Southern Charm” at 10 p.m. Monday.
VH1 concludes this season of “Basketball Wives L.A.” at 8 p.m. Monday, and later that night, FX has the season finale of “Archer” at 10 p.m. On Tuesday, a new “Face Off” winner will be crowned in the finale at 9 p.m. on Syfy, and “Chrisley Knows Best” signs off from its first season at 10 p.m. on USA.
Scripted series premieres: “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” 8 p.m. Sunday, Hallmark (romantic dramedy about postal workers who track down the intended recipients of undeliverable mail); “Salem,” 10 p.m. Sunday, WGN (supernatural drama set during the Salem Witch Trials); “Faking It,” 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, MTV (comedy about two teens who are mistaken for lesbians and embrace the lie after it gives them popularity).
Other series premieres: “Boss Hog,” 10 p.m. Friday, Discovery (an entrepreneur runs several business ventures based on Texas’ wild hog problem); “Tobacco Wars,” 10 p.m. Saturday, CMT (dark-fired tobacco farmers in Kentucky); “Filthy Riches,” 10 p.m. Sunday, National Geographic (people who make their living through unusual — and often dirty — jobs); “Rewrapped,” 8 p.m. Monday, Food Network (cooking competition using iconic snack foods); “Cell Block Psychic,” 9 p.m. Monday, ID (a psychic delivers messages to killers from their victims); “True Tori,” 10 p.m. Tuesday, Lifetime (chronicle of Tori Spelling’s marriage difficulties); “The Illegal Eater,” 10 p.m. Tuesday, Esquire (Barenaked Ladies singer Steven Page explores underground restaurants).
Miniseries premiere: “The Real History of Science Fiction,” 10 p.m. Saturday, BBC America (four-part documentary tracing the developments of robots, space, invasion and time).
Season premieres: “Life Below Zero,” 9 p.m. Thursday, National Geographic; “Orphan Black,” 9 p.m. Saturday, BBC America; “Devious Maids,” 10 p.m. Sunday, Lifetime; “The Boondocks” (final season), 10:30 p.m. Monday, Cartoon Network; “Deadliest Catch,” 9 p.m. Tuesday, Discovery (two hours); “Dual Survival,” 9 p.m. Wednesday, Discovery; “Trip Flip,” 9 p.m., and “Baggage Battles,” 10 p.m. Wednesday, Travel.
Series finale: “Lindsay,” 9 p.m. Sunday, OWN (two hours).
Specials: “In My Dreams,” 9 p.m. Sunday, ABC (Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about a couple brought together though a wish on a magic fountain); “Nashville: On the Record,” 10 p.m. Wednesday, ABC (cast members perform songs from the show and songwriters discuss the writing process).
