Anniversary

n First Baptist Church of Montgomery will be have a pre-anniversary musical for its pastor, Bishop Thomas R. Murray Jr., at 5 p.m. April 26 at the church. Featured groups will be Reunion, Spiritual Harmonizers and the Smith Family.

Easter programs/services

n Rensford Baptist Church’s choir and performing cast will present the Easter Cantata 2014, “From Calgary With Love ...,” written by Margie Pittman, at 7 p.m. today at the church. The pastor is Ed Jarrett.

n Paradise Island of Christian WV, located on W.Va. Route 80, between Man and Gilbert, near Verner, Logan County, will present “The Passion Trail, The Footsteps of Jesus,” featuring 175 scenes of the life of Christ on a half-mile walking trail at 7:30 p.m. today. A sing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and there will be food and refreshments. n Good Shepherd Free Will Baptist Church will have a sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday at the church with Pastor Jason C. Black speaking. A praise and worship service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jason C. Black. An Easter egg hunt will be held at noon. The Rev. George Leese will speak at the 6 p.m. Easter Sunday service and the church choir will perform. A prayer meeting and youth group meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The church is at 5470 W. n United Disciples of Christ Church will have an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. today at the church, 100 United Disciples Drive, South Charleston. Bring your own basket. n Abundant Life Ministries will host a free Easter celebration and youth rally in memory of Damion Blaney at noon Sunday at the Clay Center. Musical guest will be the 2013 Female Gospel Artist of the Year, Stellar Award Winner, Kierra “Kiki” Sheard. The Easter service will also be a youth rally in memory of Damion Blaney, a 14-year-old who became a Christian during the April 4, 2010, Easter service. Blaney passed away eight days later. n The Easter cantata “Jesus Messiah,” created by Dennis and Nan Allen, will be presented by the choir at 6 p.m. Sunday at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 4707 Ohio St., South Charleston. Tim Whitener will direct with Gretchen Simpson accompanying the choir on the piano.

n Ruffner Memorial Presbyterian Church will have a “Jesus is Alive!” celebration of the resurrection of the Lord with the annual Flowering of the Cross Service and morning worship at 11 a.m. on Easter Sunday. The church is on the corner of Greenbrier and Quarrier streets. Use the chapel entrance on Greenbrier Street. Parking is available on the street or the parking lot behind the church.

n Living Water Worship Centre, 513 Patrick St., will have a Resurrection Sunday Celebration at noon Sunday at the church. A “Friday Night Live” event will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Miscellaneous

n The Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd., has a nonreligious discussion group that meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. It is an open forum, inviting all to participate. This Sunday, the book “Unaccountable: What Hospitals Won’t Tell You and How Transparency Can Revolutionize Health Care,” by Dr. Marty Makary, a surgeon, will be discussed.

n A hot dog and bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 26 at Garrison Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, 597 Garrison Ave.

n Pastor Randy Carter will be preaching the message titled “The Cup” at 8 a.m. Sunday morning on WQCW.

n The Root and the Branch Inc. has scheduled an evening of Jewish and Christian dialogue from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Columbia Gas Transmission cafeteria. The topic will be “Ask the Experts: What You Have Always Wanted to Ask a Rabbi, Priest/Pastor or Imam and Didn’t Have the Opportunity to Do So.” Panelists will be Monsignor P. Edward Sadie, Basilica of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral; Rabbi Victor Urecki, Congregation B’nai Jacob; Imam Dr. Hamul Haque, West Virginia Islamic Association; and the Rev. n Triumphant Quartet will be in concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Simpson Creek Baptist Church, 231 W. Philadelphia Ave., Bridgeport. They are the No. 1 Southern gospel quartet, voted by fans. n Mark Holmes will perform at 5 p.m. April 27 at Grace Bible Church, 600 Kanawha Blvd. W. n A benefit gospel sing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. April 26 at Sissonville High School. A love offering will be taken. Refreshments are available. Proceeds will benefit medulloblastoma brain cancer patient Brandon Joseph, 4-year-old grandson of Barbara Vance. Proceeds will be used to help with travel expenses to Columbus, Ohio, and household needs for the family to care for Brandon’s illness. Special services

n The Breath of Freshness Apostolic Ministries will have their Women’s Day program at 4 p.m. May 18 at Switzer Community Center, to the right as you enter Orchard Manor. The theme will be “Healing.” Women are asked to wear white. Music will be provided by Angie Richardson.

n Greater Jerusalem Worship Center, 4819 Washington Ave. SE., Kanawha City, will have a night of fellowship, praise, worship and word at 7 p.m. May 2 at the church. Guest speaker will be Pastor Terrance Hamm, along with his congregation from Living Waters Family Christian Center, Montgomery.

n Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the annual Women’s Day at 3 p.m. April 27 with the Rev. Carolyn Walker from Central Community Tabernacle. Dinner will be served following the morning service.
