Pet preparedness month

In conjunction with April being Pet Preparedness Month, Volunteer West Virginia is partnering with the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association for a Pet Preparedness event from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. The first 20 people to adopt a new pet will receive a pre-packed starter disaster kit. For information, contact Gina Namay at 304-558-0111 or gina.l.namay@wv.gov.

UKV meet the candidates event

The Upper Kanawha Valley Mayor’s Association will have a “Meet the Candidates” event at 7 p.m. Friday in the Lisa E. Curry Annex beside the Chesapeake Town Hall, corner of 124th Street and McCorkle Avenue. All candidates have been invited to speak. Refreshments will be served. Housing authority board of commissioners

The Charleston-Kanawha Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. April 28 at 1525 Washington St. W.

Bark for life

American Cancer Society will sponsor a Bark for Life canine event to fight cancer from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 at Joplin Park, South Charleston. To register, visit www.relayforlife.org/barkkanawha.

Al-Anon/Alateen

Al-Anon and Alateen hold meetings for family and friends of alcoholics and/or drug addiction. Al-Anon, for family members or friends of alcoholics, meets at 8 p.m. Tuesdays at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.; at noon on Wednesdays at the Kanawha County Day Report Center, 900 Christopher St.; 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Dr. Alateen for friends or family members of alcoholics/drug addiction meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Dr.; and the Legacy Study Group meets at 7 p.m. Sundays at First Presbyterian Church, 508 Second Ave., South Charleston.
