Prep roundup: Nitro tops Ripley 10-5

Nitro scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull away for a 10-5 high school baseball road victory over Ripley Tuesday.

Jacob Bradley and Matt Jewell each had two hits for the Wildcats (15-3). Easton Berry went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Ripley (11-10).

Parkersburg 5, Hurricane 4: Jeff Davis went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles as Parkersburg secured a road win. Cole Parker also had three hits for the Big Reds. Alexander Dunham went 2 for 4 with a double for Hurricane (10-4).

Herbert Hoover 14, Nicholas County 4: Cody Bowen went 2 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs to lead Herbert Hoover over host Nicholas County. Tristan Fields blasted two home runs and drove in four runs and Hunter White went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Huskies (15-2). Josh Gregory recorded a solo home run for the Grizzlies (6-9).

South Charleston 8, Spring Valley 3: Trevor Sampson went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs as South Charleston won on the road. Jared Hill added two hits and drove home two runs for the Black Eagles.

Valley 1, Buffalo 0: Druw Bowen struck out 12 in a three-hit shutout for a Valley home win. Bowen also helped himself at the plate, going 2 for 3 and driving home the only run of the game for the Greyhounds (9-5).

Shady Spring 6, Capital 4: Brenden Schack went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI as Shady Spring (6-9) won at home. Justin Palmer belted a home run for Capital (7-13).

Logan 10, Man 0: Josh Rein went 3 for 3 with a double and drove home four runs as Logan blanked visiting Man in five -innings. Chase Burnette pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Wildcats (10-5). Braden Griffin had the hit for Man (10-5).

Softball

Hurricane 6, Lincoln County 0: Emily Davis surrendered five hits in seven innings as Hurricane shut out visiting Lincoln County. Addie Fullen went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs and Courtney Rogers belted a two-run homer to lead the Redskins (20-1). Brooke West recorded two hits for the Panthers (18-7).

SC 4, Winfield 2: South Charleston plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hold off visiting Winfield. Kelly Knuckles and Emily Bostick each drove in a run and Olivia Orcutt-Lazo went 2 for 3 with a triple for the Black Eagles (10-13). Kenna Markum connected for a solo home run and Ally Funk went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Generals.

Logan 13, GW 2: Logan erupted for 11 runs in the fourth inning and disposed of host George Washington in a four-inning mercy-rule contest. Hana Sedlock went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs for the Wildcats, while Samantha Curry added two doubles and drove in a run. Billie Murray went 2 for 3 for the Patriots (5-14).

Riverside 7, Greenbrier East 6: Greenbrier East scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough as Riverside escaped with a road win. Harley Justice went 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBIs for the Warriors (8-9), while Felicia Burton had two hits and drove home two runs. Shayla Fry went 2 for 3 with a double for GE (10-1).

Cross Lanes sweeps TVC: Bethany Stepp drove in five runs as host Cross Lanes Christian took a doubleheader against Teays Valley Christian, winning 9-1 and 13-3. In the first game, Stepp went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs and Madison Rigsby added three hits and three RBIs for Cross Lanes. In the second game, Stepp recorded a double and a triple to drive in three runs and Sarah Stepp went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Cross Lanes.

Ripley 6, St. Albans 0: Chelsey Hager pitched a two-hit shutout as Ripley blanked host St. Albans. Hager also hit a home run and Kelsey Moore, Megan Brannon, Myranda Murphy and Maddy McCann each drove in a run. Madi Marshall went 2 for 3 with a double for SA (9-14).

Point Pleasant 15, Wahama 1: Point Pleasant piled on 11 runs in the second inning to take down host Wahama in three innings. Makinley Higginbotham went 3 for 3 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs for the Big Blacks (12-6).

Wayne sweeps Poca: Emily Thompson threw a one-hitter in the first game to help Wayne take a home doubleheader over Poca by scores of 7-2 and 10-4. In the first game, Jacey Parsons drove in three runs, Emily Fry recorded an RBI triple and Alli Maynard homered to lead the Pioneers. In the second game, Thompson belted a two-run homer and Olivia Followay added a double and two RBIs for the Pioneers (15-5). Tori Ward drove in two runs for the Dots (9-12).
