Prep roundup: Chapmanville outslugs St. Albans 18-10
Chapmanville got off to a fast start with a five-run first inning and held off St. Albans 18-10 Friday at the Ed Carter Memorial tournament in Hurricane.
William Copley went 4 for 5 with two doubles, Tristan Thompson went 3 for 6 with two doubles and Brent Bigely smacked a two-run homer and finished with four RBIs for the Tigers, who pounded out 20 hits.
For the Red Dragons, Josh Burks hit a two-run homer and a three-run homer, and Hunter Chandler launched a solo shot.
Hurricane 11, St. Albans 4: Hurricane tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put away St. Albans at the Ed Carter Memorial. Alex Dunham went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs and Trey Dawson added a two-run double for the Redskins (13-4). Peter Theodos knocked in two runs for the Red Dragons.
Charleston Catholic 4, Point Pleasant 2: Connor Golden went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs as Charleston Catholic took down visiting Point Pleasant. Thad Jameson added two doubles and Sam McKown and Michael Martin each drove in a run for the Irish (13-6). Austen Toler and Trevor Porter each had an RBI for the Big Blacks (12-6).
Hurricane 9, St. Albans 1: Addie Fullen went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Hurricane to a home win. Cassi Sargent added a double and a triple and Courtney Rogers went 2 for 3 for the Redskins (23-1). Madi Marshall went 1 for 2 with an RBI to lead the Red Dragons.
Winfield 10, Riverside 0: Cartney Schoolcraft struck out seven and pitched a one-hitter as Winfield blanked visiting Riverside in a four-inning mercy-rule contest. Schoolcraft helped her own cause offensively, going 3 for 3 for the Generals (8-17).
Point sweeps Huntington: Karissa Cochran threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 7-0 win for host Point Pleasant in the first game of a doubleheader and the Big Blacks finished the sweep with a 9-6 win in the nightcap.
Cochran went 2 for 3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs in the first game for Point (16-6). Makinley Higginbotham had three hits with a double, a home run and a pair of RBIs while Rebecca Darst went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs in the second game for the Big Blacks. Morgan Sauyers led Huntington, going 2 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs.
George Washington 12, Linsly 8: George Washington defeated visiting in its regular-season finale. Sam Skinner tallied four goals for the Patriots while Jake Jacobs netted three goals and three assists. Linsly was led by Casey O’Korn and Jordan Patrick with three goals apiece.
