Roundup: WVSU tennis team gets NCAA bid
The West Virginia State women’s tennis team has been selected participate in the NCAA Division II tournament.
Forty-eight teams from around the country are invited to play for the national championship, which starts May 17 in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Yellow Jackets are the No. 3 seed in the seven-team Atlantic Region and will face sixth-seeded Slippery Rock at 3 p.m. Saturday in a first-round match at Indiana (Pa.) University, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s noon final. The winner of that match advances to the Sweet 16, which begins play Wednesday May 14.
West Virginia State won the inaugural Mountain East Conference championship last fall with a perfect 10-0 conference mark and overall record of 12-0. This marks the seventh straight appearance in the NCAA tournament for the Yellow Jackets.
