The Greenbrier Historical Society will feature author Wess Harris at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium at New River Community and Technical College, 101 Church St., Lewisburg, as part of the society’s 2014 spring lecture series. Harris will be speaking about his book “Cross the Pond: Vietnam Vets Uncensored.” Admission is “pay what you can” with all proceeds benefiting the programs of the Greenbrier Historical Society. South Charleston Public Library will offer an adult watercolor painting class for beginners by Joanne Jacobs at 6 p.m. Thursday at the library, 312 Fourth Ave. Space is limited. To register, call 304-744-8808.
Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority will have an officers meeting at 11 a.m. Friday in the new training conference room at Central Office, 601 Brooks St. The regular board of directors meeting will be held at noon in the cafeteria at Central Office. DAR parade, meeting
The John Young Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will participate in the annual Armed Forces Day parade at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in South Charleston. The parade will end at the Mound. Members can choose to walk or ride in groups in cars, which must be arranged prior to the event. Lunch and a short business meeting will be held at the Main Tin Restaurant on Seventh Avenue. This is the chapter’s final meeting of the year.
A veterans memorial dedication will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hively Cemetery in Wallback. A memorial for fallen veterans from the area will be unveiled. Directions: Take the Wallback exit (34) off Interstate 79. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto W.Va. 36. Go 2 miles and turn right onto White Road (County Route 36/5). Go one-tenth of a mile, second road on the left and make a left turn onto the road to the cemetery. Follow the gravel road, approximately 400 feet to where the road makes a sharp left turn up the hill to the cemetery.
