New Marshall Visual Arts Center nears completion

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Work on Marshall University’s new Visual Arts Center is expected to be completed this month.

The center is located in a former department store building. Marshall bought the 112-year-old building in 2011 and began the $13.4 million renovation in January 2013.

Marshall director of facilities and planning Ron May tells The Herald-Dispatch that the building required a major update.

Marshall’s School of Art and Design will move from the campus to the center.

The first floor will feature a gift shop and an art gallery. May says there also is separate retail space that will be leased when the center is complete.
