Workers at Rite Aid’s Poca facility OK contract

POCA, W.Va. (AP) — Rite Aid’s distribution center in Poca will remain open until November 2017 under a new contract approved by union workers.

Rite Aid had planned to close the facility in 2016.

Teamsters Local 175 President Ken Hall tells media outlets that 40 workers will be laid off. The remaining workers will be able to work 40 hours a week for the life of the new contract. Some will reach retirement age before the distribution center closes.

The distribution center employs about 200 workers.

Hall says the contract also includes raises and maintains the workers’ health-care plan.

He says 94 percent of the workers approved the contract on Sunday.

Rite Aid spokeswoman Ashley Flower says the company believes the contract is fair for the company and the workers.
