Huntington to demolish oldest housing project

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington agency is preparing to demolish the city’s oldest public housing project.

The Northcott Court complex was built in the 1940s. It has 13 buildings with 129 housing units.

Crews from the Huntington West Virginia Housing Authority completed boarding and securing the buildings on Monday.

Housing Authority Executive Director Vickie Lester told the Herald-Dispatch that bids for demolition will be accepted until Friday. The bids will be opened on June 10.

Demolition is expected to begin this summer.

The authority plans to build two 40-unit complexes in the Fairfield neighborhood.
