Deputy treasurer receives national award

By Staff reports

Deputy West Virginia Treasurer Carolyn Atkinson is the second West Virginian to earn a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.

NAUPA honored Atkinson recently during the National Association of State Treasurers’ national conference in Orlando, Florida, for Atkinson’s long activity both as a state and national unclaimed property official.

Atkinson first worked in the Treasurer’s unclaimed property program as an attorney for nearly 12 years before being named deputy treasurer in 2012. During her time at the State Treasury Office, Atkinson served NAUPA in a variety of capacities and on various committees.

NAUPA unofficially serves as the unclaimed property arm of the national treasurers’ association.

State Treasure John Perdue is the only other West Virginian to win the award.

“It’s a real honor to receive this award,” Atkinson said in a press release. “It’s very much a surprise. It’s very humbling to see the caliber of people who have also received this award, including Treasurer Purdue.”
