KCPL performances

Bright Star Touring Theatre will be visiting area libraries to show the production of “Professor Parsnip’s Lab of Healthy Choices.” The free production will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Main Library, 123 Capitol St. Other participating libraries will be the Sissonville, Dunbar, St. Albans, Clendenin, Elk Valley, Cross Lanes and Riverside branches. Leadership Putnam County

A luncheon to recognize the graduates of Leadership Putnam County will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane. This reception is open to all Chamber members, past leadership class participants, class sponsors and class presenters. West Virginia Secretary of Commerce, Keith Burdette, will address the graduates and guests. The event will also include a lunch buffet and slide show of the Leadership Putnam County activities. There is a $20 cost for the breakfast, and reservations are requested by Wednesday. Ham radio license exams

Tri-State Amateur Radio Association will offer new or upgraded Amateur Radio “Ham” License from the Federal Communications Commission at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Museum of Radio and Technology, 1640 Florence Ave., Huntington. All examination elements will be offered for all Amateur Radio License classes. A fee of $15 will be charged per test. Pre-registration is not necessary; however, applicants must complete FCC Form NCVEC 605, available at the exam session. Tyler Mountain VFD open house

The Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual open house/hot dog sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tyler Mountain Community Center. Tours of the station, Kid Tracks sponsored by the Kanawha Sheriff’s Department, Casey the robotic ambulance and a special guest appearance will be featured. A car-cutting demonstration will be held. Raffle tickets for a combination gas/charcoal grill will be held along with a silent auction at the community building during the hot dog sale. Baked goods will also be available.

Democratic women’s picnic

The Putnam County Chapter of the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women invites all Democrats and Putnam Countians to its annual picnic at noon on Saturday at Valley Park (Wave Pool), Shelter #2, in Hurricane. Cost is a $5 donation per person, children under 13 years old, free. Bring a side dish, salad or dessert. Entrée and drinks are provided. Reservation deadline is Wednesday.
