Verizon giving $25K for new playground at domestic violence shelter

Verizon Wireless is giving $25,000 for a new playground and gazebo at YWCA Charleston’s Hope House domestic violence shelter.

The shelter’s previous playground deteriorated and was ultimately deemed unsafe for children, according to a news release on the gift. The new playground could be completed by the summer of 2015.

“This is more than a gift of a playground — it’s a gift of fresh air and sunshine, and it will bring joy to the children we shelter,” YWCA Charleston Executive Director Debby Weinstein said in the release.

Verizon representatives will present the HopeLine grant at the Girls Night Out Hostess and Sponsor Appreciation Party 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Yeager Airport’s Executive Air.
