Names in the games; Greenbrier Classic, Big 12 commish, North-South hoops

Past champs commit to Greenbrier Classic

All four past champions of the Greenbrier Classic will compete in this year’s PGA Tour event.

Tournament officials announced Thursday that defending champion Jonas Blixt will play, along with 2012 winner Ted Potter Jr., 2011 winner Scott Stallings and 2010 champion Stuart Appleby.

Also joining them will be U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson, the Greenbrier’s golf pro emeritus.

The Greenbrier Classic will be held July 3-6 on the Old White TPC Course in White Sulphur Springs.

Big 12 commissioner gets 2-year extension

The Big 12 Conference has given Commissioner Bob Bowlsby a two-year contract extension.

He has three years remaining on his original five-year deal. The extension runs through June 2019.

Under Bowlsby, the Big 12 signed a 13-year television deal with ESPN and Fox that has led to record revenue for conference members. The Big 12 recently announced $220.1 million in distributable revenue for its 10 members for the 2013-14 fiscal year.

Altidore to miss Cup game against Portugal

Jozy Altidore will miss the Americans’ World Cup game against Portugal on Sunday because of his strained left hamstring and appears likely to sit out next week’s match against Germany.

Altidore was hurt in the 21st minute of Monday’s 2-1 win over Ghana, and the U.S. Soccer Federation said Thursday he will not play against the Portuguese.

North-South basketball game live on internet

Tonight’s North-South All-Star Basketball Classic will be broadcast live on the Internet by the Media Center.

The game can be seen at www.wchstv.com beginning at 7:15 with the pregame show.
