Staff reports

A concert Tuesday aims to have something for lovers of all sorts of Gospel Music. The RCCR Gospel Fest, to be held at Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church, will feature three different gospel groups with three different styles: Southern Gospel with the Madison Gospel Quartet; Black Gospel with 4GVN-4 Ministry; and contemporary Gospel with the City of Refuge trio.

“It’s a real great experience,” W.I. (Bill) Hairston, director of social services for the event’s sponsor, the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal, said. “It works really well. It’s just a really wonderful evening. It’s a short evening -- it ends at 8:30, but it’s a great experience.”

This will be the fourth year for the concert.

The concert is free, though an offering to benefit the Samaritan Inn, a transitional shelter for men, will be accepted.

While the groups will sing separately, Hairston said it’s not uncommon for the groups to sing a couple of songs together, too.

“That brings the audience together,” he said. “It’s the same message done culturally different and here’s a place we can do the message together.”

The concert will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, located at 607 Shrewsbury Street in Charleston.
