Berkeley ex-deputy gets probation for false info

By The Associated Press

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A former Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy will spend a year on probation after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an off-duty wreck.

Patrick Ware also must spend 24 hours on home confinement, pay a $300 fine and perform 250 hours of community service.

The Hedgesville resident, 31, pleaded guilty in April to providing false information to police and driving under the influence causing bodily injury.

Media outlets reported that Ware was sentenced Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court.

Prosecutors say a vehicle driven by Ware collided with another vehicle on May 1, 2013. He and a passenger, Mindy D. Selph, told a State Police trooper that Selph was driving.

Selph pleaded guilty in May to giving false information to police. Her sentencing is set for June 30.
