Luggage, toiletries distributed to foster kids

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Roughly 150 pieces of new luggage and toiletries donated by customers and associates of BB&T are being distributed this weekend to child protective service workers, law enforcement and advocates across the state for children who are transitioning to foster care.

The donations are part of Mission West Virginia’s Carry-On Campaign, which aims to eliminate garbage bags as an acceptable form of luggage for youths in foster care.

“No child should have to use a trash bag to support their belongings and this donation brings us one step closer to eliminating the use of garbage bags as luggage for youth in care,” said Carrie Dawson, public relations director with Mission West Virginia.

The campaign is statewide and year-round.
