Roundup: W.Va. State softball clinic scheduled for Winfield

The West Virginia State softball coaching staff and players will hold a clinic Aug. 16 for players age 7-14 at the Winfield Little League facility. The clinic will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. with a lunch break provided at noon.

Players should bring their own lunch, as well as a bat, glove, batting helmet and cleats. The first 50 players to register receive a free T-shirt. Cost is $75. For more information, send email to


LITTLE LEAGUE: The top eight teams have advanced to the knockout round at the 9-10 year old state tournament at South Charleston’s Little Creek Park.

In today’s 6 p.m. games, Bridgeport faces Madison and Barboursville meets Ceredo-Kenova. In the 8 p.m. games, St. Albans takes on Sophia and Shinnston faces Mountaineer.

Semifinals are set for Tuesday with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
