Weather service confirms tornado in Taylor County
GRAFTON, W.Va. – The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Taylor County last week during a summer storm.
The weather service says the EF1 tornado traveled about four-and-a-half miles and carried winds of up to 100 miles per hour.
The tornado damaged two homes, destroyed a carport and uprooted or snapped numerous trees. There were no injuries.
The weather service says the tornado touched down around 3:55 p.m. last Tuesday about 2 miles north of Grafton. The twister then traveled northeast.
Investigators believe the tornado traveled about 3 miles through uninhabited land. Downed trees were seen in this area but a survey wasn’t conducted because of a lack of roads.
