Speaker, concert

Motivational speaker Bill Sanders, author for “Chicken Soup for the Soul,” will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clay County High School. Sanders is co-developer of Rachel’s Challenge, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating safe, connected school environments. Based on the life and writing of Rachel Scott, the first victim of the 1999 mass shooting at Columbine High School, Rachel’s Challenge provides a continual improvement process for schools designed to awaken the learner in every child. At 6 p.m. Thursday in the Clay County High School auditorium, the Church Sisters of Galax, Virginia, will perform as part of the Picnic on the Parking Lot, hosted by Northgate Baptist Church. Food, prizes and more will be featured.

Meditation group

KK Meditation Group will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lifespring Yoga, 1025 Quarrier St. The group practices Buddhist meditation in the Karma Kagyu tradition. There will be 30 minutes of reading/discussion, followed by 30 minutes of sitting/walking meditation. Beginners are welcome. A small donation is appreciated. SC Yard Sale

The South Charleston Woman’s Club will be selling hot dogs, drinks and ice cream during the South Charleston Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and July 26 at Oakes Field. All proceeds will be used for community service projects.

Karaoke

Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to Karaoke Night at 7 p.m. Saturday at 804 Myrtle Road. Everyone is welcome to share their talents. There will be singing, dancing and food to share. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade festive treats are available at a small donation cost. General admission is $2. For this month only, Unity’s monthly Karaoke Night will be on a Saturday.
