Jones, Dickson lead Power past Suns 6-1

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — JaCoby Jones belted a solo home run in the top of the first inning to the help West Virginia to a 6-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium. It was the first time the Power defeated the Suns this season.

Jones staked West Virginia to the early lead with his 15th home run this season while also extending his hitting streak to 17 consecutive games. The Power (13-14) added a run on a pair of doubles in the third inning and took a 3-0 lead on a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth.

After Hagerstown plated a run off West Virginia starter Cody Dickson in the bottom of the fifth, the Power added three more runs over the sixth and seventh innings. Danny Collins singled in Reese McGuire in the sixth and Edwin Espinal knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded double in the seventh to give West Virginia a 6-1 lead and cap the scoring.

Dickson (5-8) worked six innings in his fifth quality start of the season, striking out five and walking two. Hector Silvestre (5-7) took the loss after allowing the first three Power runs over five innings.

Five different West Virginia players had two hits apiece while Jones and Espinal drove in two runs each.

The Power and Suns close this three-game series tonight at Municipal Stadium. Luis Heredia will start for West Virginia against Hagerstown’s Nick Pivetta.

West Virginia returns to Appalachian Power Park Friday to open a four-game home stand against the Rome Braves.
