Staff report

A Hurricane man was arrested Sunday after allegedly leading police on a roughly 10-mile chase during which he tossed two handguns out of his vehicle.

John Roberts, 47, was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing authorities while driving under the influence and felon in possession of a firearm, according to state police.

At about 3 p.m., a trooper allegedly spotted Roberts near the Milton exit of Interstate 64 traveling west at about 80 miles an hour, swerving and almost hitting a guardrail and another vehicle. Two other troopers joined in pursuit alongside Barboursville police and Cabell County sheriff’s deputies.

Roberts eventually stopped at the Barbousville exit, and police found an undisclosed amount of liquor in his vehicle, according to a state police report. He was in Western Regional Jail late Sunday night on $48,000 bail.
